SOLILUNAR is a light installation proposal for Amsterdam Light Festival Edition 13.

The moon and the sun are powerful symbols in most cultures, and many traditions use rituals to honor and invoke their energies. The moon is often associated with intuition, femininity, and mystery, while the sun is seen as a symbol of strength, masculinity, and enlightenment. Rituals involving the moon are usually focused on meditation, self-exploration, and connection with the emotional side. Rituals with the sun, on the other hand, tend to be more energetic and focused on celebration and manifestation of desires. In both practices, the moon and the sun are revered as cosmic forces that can connect us to the forces of nature and the universe, manifesting intentions and celebrating life.

As visitors walk along the canals around Keizersgracht and see the neon lights reflecting on the water, they can explore some of the different phases of the moon and solar cycles. The exhibition also offers a powerful sensory experience, taking the visitor on a journey through the symbology and meaning of these celestial bodies. In addition to providing a memorable and captivating experience, it delves into spirituality and the relationship between humans, the cosmos, and rituals. Ultimately, the goal is for visitors to leave with a deeper understanding of the relationship between the sun and the moon and how it influences spiritual practices in various cultures around the world.
